Do you have any scheduled tasks?
on Feb 25, 2008
I checked earlier and just now. Nope. None.
on Feb 25, 2008
Odd . . Google only returned a few hits with that error . . and no good solutions.

If you are not using a scheduled task you could disable it.  I'd use TweakVista.

Go to the Services tab.  Then the advanced tab.  then scroll down to Task Sceduler and set it from automatic to manual.

problem (sorta) fixed.

I'd rather wait till I can buy TweakVista to use it.

Anyhow I went into Control Panel and into Services. Vista will NOT let me disable Task Scheduler. All options are grayed out.

I didn't think you could disable it . . but I did think you could prevent it from starting by setting it to "manual" next you booted.
One more example of me being wrong.   (

That option is grayed out as well...

Every time I try to uncheck it in MSConfig it re-checks itself to start...

Very annoying little problem!

kona, can you find it in the services? try typing services.msc in the run box.....

assuming Vista will let you do that. does Vista have a run box? hmmm.......

Kill the Auto Update feature in Java CP.
on Feb 25, 2008
Killajosh - Vista has a search box in the start menu. Typing in a program usually starts it.

Yrag - thank you. We will see if that works.
on Feb 25, 2008
OK. I just rebooted. Sorry Yrag. That pop up is still happening. I guess killing the Java auto-update had no effect on it.

Un-install Java and see if it goes away.

Note: Before you do that, make sure you have no other apps that have an active scheduler running in Tasks.
on Feb 25, 2008
I un-installed Java. Performed a shutdown and restart and yet we still have that pop-up. Getting rid of Java didn't do the trick.

I don't see any tasks in task scheduler. I haven't created any. There any some system tasks listed. Here they are:

I already deleted the anything to do with Java in the list.
Shall I delete the rest? I don't use any of them that I know of...

What a load of HP crap.....I'd dump them all.

Look in Event Viewer and see if it's showing any errors related to shutdown.
on Feb 25, 2008
Unloaded all those tasks. I'll perform a shutdown here shortly and report back.

Event viewer has no info about this problem that I can see.
on Feb 25, 2008
OK the pop-up is gone. Must have been all that HP related crap.

I have a different problem to ask you about though Yrag. From the time I push the power button to the time I can execute a program on the computer is still about 3 or 4 minutes.

I have a Celeron 420, 2 GB of DDR2 5300 RAM.

My startup programs are:

McAffee AV
Open Office Quickstart
COMODO Firewall
Trillian
Realtek HD audio manager

Should I install the current Vista SP1 build to get some more speed?
