OK, brand new laptop.. Sold the desktop to get it. Anyhow, every now and then, a line appears across the screen near the top, like a flicker. Sometimes it happens in the middle. What would cause this? Should I be concerned? Driver issue?

Here is a video of problem. Near the end you will see what I am talking about, at the top of the screen. I have installed different drivers. I'll see if that helps.

Well I can't get that machine to flicker right now so what do you suggest?

Return it.  Show your video to the customer service folks if you can't get it to reproduce.  I was only mentioning the Jing thing as a way to narrow down where the issue might be.

The only way to get to the store to return the notebook today would mean selling my 500 GB external hard drive for gas money. I would then have no way to backup or restore my files.

I've had the notebook on all day today with no issues. Wondering if this was just a loose screw on the CPU heatsink or a loose connection. either way, so far so good. Hey Yrag if your out there I was wondering about your opinion on this issue. Thanks.

You and me are in the same boat: will it happen again?  Just finished playing the Sims 3 for approx 4 hours, no flickering.  No flickering in Chrome or VSExpress, or the desktop.  Will continue to watch...both my warranty expiration date and the monitor

Situation resolved. Thanks for the help. I ended up returning the notebook and picked up an Acer that has a Celeron with the Sandy bridge architecture.
