Is Red Hat Linux Enterprise Desktop made for a server?
If you guys want to compare Linux to Windows then knock yourselves out. I suggest you eliminate Windows entirely from your computing needs/desires and live in your little "I think it all should be free" world. Enjoy your ride.
Ding ding ding..........we have a winner! I lol'd all the way across the floor.....and almost out the door........karma for you! hehe
EDIT:
I have yet to meet a self-proclaimed 'Linux fan' who is able to sustain his/her digital life using only same. Being a loud self-proclaimed 'Windows fan' myself I can say I have and continue to sustain the entirety of my digital life using.........wait for it.............yes that's right.......W.....I......N.........D......O......W......S!
EDIT 2:
Oh and before someone jumps on the 'third-party software' bandwagon. The only third-party software (in my case NON-Microsoft) software I run besides the obvious (games) are TeamSpeak and STEAM.
Windows 8 is a great OS for many reasons that I mentioned in another thread. Would not go back to 7 if you paid me. 8 will continue to evolve and the latest update which will come in about a month will make it even more user friendly for the mouse and keyboard brigade.
I never said I believe everything should be free.
(Phoon, you are just splitting hairs)
Drop 8 to $39 and watch the people flock to it.
Providing your hardware can take it you'll notice the speed difference etc when compared to 7.
Unless you get the results I got and Windows 8 ran slower than 7. No thanks.
Ubuntu is a nice toy. I have it VMd but it's only a toy.
Windows 8 was $39 for quite a while, I got two copies at that price.
Well with your hardware I'd be surprised if Windows 95 would run efficiently.
I got mine for 14.99.
Got mine via Technet...so thankfully I could justify the sub on the 'real stuff' from MS....8 was just a 'toy'....
And what is that supposed to mean? What kind of hardware did you think I have?
the weird thing is how some sites are saying ms is giving away this to win 7 users for free.
why on earth would someone with whichever win 7 edition (aside from the most basic featureless one.. whatever it's called) want to upgrade to a win 8/8.1 starter (aka crippled) edition with ads flying all over the place?
now, if they are saying a cheap/free upgrade from 7->8 equivalent (ultimate->ultimate) they might get somewhere...
I think there are a few die-hards coping with win 8, just like they did with Vista, but it will do no good. Every day I see more and more tips appearing on how to downgrade from 8 to 7, just like it was with vista.
windows 8 is doooooooooomed.
Why W9 should be free: http://www.eweek.com/enterprise-apps/slideshows/windows-9-needs-to-be-free-10-reasons-why.html
There you go. It's only a matter of time. If they don't do something like this it's game over for MS.
Win 8 a massive flop, Google, Steam and Linux breathing down their necks, I bet they are pooing their collective pants.
Maybe windows 9 will be the OS that the users have been asking for, it better be.
