Seems I have a problem here. I have a Biostar Tforce4 U motherboard. For some reason this board really does not play nice with the Nforce4 drivers. By that I mean if i try to burn a CD or DVD using Nero it will not work. The DVD Burner is on SATA. The hard drive is IDE. However if I switch back to regular Windows XP drivers than the disk will burn. Top that off with the system will reboot itself from time to time due to an error. The error has something to do with minidumping or something. I can't read it because it goes by to quick. All this and sometimes the machine will hang while booting. My options are thus:

  • Reinstall XP for the hundredth time and deal with this all over again
  • Quit using Nero
  • Install Vista after buying a copy
  • Just deal with it till I can get a better PC

The thing about all this is this machine is new. We newer than my old P4 setup.

Thoughts?

I can't wait a month to be homest. I need a better OS now. For now XP seems stable. I removed Nero. I will be installing the Nforce drivers in a few. I will update my status later.

ID: Thanks.

If you want some great support, head over to the EVGA forums, we've got a lot of experience working with those nForce boards and driver issues, even if your board isn't an EVGA brand, we can probably hook you up.

My best guess is that you need a proper driver pack - the 15.xx and later nVidia driver packs are problematic.

Check out this troubleshooting FAQ I did on the EVGA forums for their 680i series.  Most, if not all of the advice there is applicable to all nForce-based motherboards.  Specifically, check out the section where I discuss getting the right drivers.

Should save you some money and the hassle of re-installing an O.S.

Kona I also recommend that forum for your problems! Also keep the xp do not up grade to vista. The xp can be setup to work for you as you want and goggle this for burning software IMGBURN works very well and is a free program.

I'm not very fond of Nero myself. It can and does cause problems with some systems.

Just my opinion on this but it almost sounds like a bio problem. Have you installed any bio updates? Also is this a new board or what the news I'm seeing here?

Let me know Kona and I'll be more than happy to get with you and try and resolve this problem for you.

This honestly sounds like an old motherboard firmware version OR bad drivers for the IDE/SCSI controller - might try a simple driver reinstall

i bet you wouldn't have that problem if you had an intel based rig!!

on Sep 08, 2009

Your right. I would have MORE issues to deal with than just a driver issue.

on Sep 08, 2009

that's really funny. i have yet to have hardware related issues.

Complete and utter nonsense. Weather you like Intel or not, it is the defacto standard of which others have had to work very hard to try to live up to. Remember the early days of Sound Cards? Sound Blaster was IT, and everything else was SB Compatible. Similar scenario.

If you choose to go against that grain then more power to you and I wish you great success in your ventures to save a buck, but please.. stop the senseless drivel anytime someone mentions Intel, Windows etc in a favorable light. It's getting old.

kona, why not install the test version of Windows 7? There's a 90 day trial out that you can install or you might still be able to get the RC if you look for it.
