Seems I have a problem here. I have a Biostar Tforce4 U motherboard. For some reason this board really does not play nice with the Nforce4 drivers. By that I mean if i try to burn a CD or DVD using Nero it will not work. The DVD Burner is on SATA. The hard drive is IDE. However if I switch back to regular Windows XP drivers than the disk will burn. Top that off with the system will reboot itself from time to time due to an error. The error has something to do with minidumping or something. I can't read it because it goes by to quick. All this and sometimes the machine will hang while booting. My options are thus:

  • Reinstall XP for the hundredth time and deal with this all over again
  • Quit using Nero
  • Install Vista after buying a copy
  • Just deal with it till I can get a better PC

The thing about all this is this machine is new. We newer than my old P4 setup.

Thoughts?

carguy, it's because windows is windows. if it was a distro if linux, he'd be using it long before now. kona's been ragging on windows forever. he hated xp when it was released but now loves it. he now hates vista but only because his system can't handle it. some people have it in their minds that upgrades aren't sometimes needed when switching to a newer OS. he'll find a reason to bash windows 7 before long even though he's never used it.

kona, on a side note, i'm very happy for you and your wife on your marriage. i sincerely hope you two remain happy for the rest of your lives. everyone deserves to find happiness. congrats!

Pas you are wrong. I have been using Windows far more than Linux all these years. The longest I used Linux for my main OS was two weeks. I don't hate Windows. I don't hate Vista. I'm not afraid to upgrade.

Get your facts straight.

Here's a fact...

Oh and by the way OSX isn't my favorite OS. I use Linux.

Ah.. and another similar fact which leads one to believe differently that "I don't hate Windows".

I disagree that Linux has a steep learning curve. How much simpler can Ubuntu get? You try to play a MP3 file and Ubuntu ask you if you want to install the MP3 codec so you can listen? WINE plays Windows games just fine.

Hmmm, what have we here.. more anti-windows ... facts?

you say you can't dig a OS named as Ubuntu is named. I can't believe how brainwashed you are to keep paying out to use Windows.

Those are just the straight facts from here, and only a very small portion of them. Your beloved google will reveal many more too. I say Pas is 100% on target and has his facts as straight as an arrow.

Yet when I posted all those replies I was using Windows. As I said I only used Linux as my main OS for 2 weeks. I just say anti-Windows things to stir the pot.

Get a clue.

Now leave me alone.

Remember my comment about being a troll? That is exactly the kind of thing a troll does. Perhaps you should re-evaluate your interaction with the site

You're deliberately stirring the pot so to speak and eliciting troll like behavior, now you want to be left alone?

Constant, neverending, year after year flip flopping comments and NOW you want to be left alone when it's pointed out.

Well, get over it! It isn't about YOU. It's about "getting the facts straight". I believe that's been done clearly so there's no need to continue with this particular event.

actually, i think i had my facts straight, terry. you've bashed windows and intel rigs for years. you complained for months on irc about win xp when it was released or when you first started using it as being a memory hog. then, for vista, you complained about it when you had never used it. now, you've already started on win 7 and you know nothing about it since you have yet to use it. who needs to get their facts straight?

Fuzzy: I'm not going to quit coming to WC. Feel free to ignore me. I am trying to change my ways.

Phoon and Pas: That was the past. Live and let live. You called me on it and your right. I'm sorry. I'll make a better effort to be a better member here instead of stiring the pot and bsahing things I have no knowledge about.

Fair enough?

Come on guys. Give me a break here. I'm really trying to be a better person.

Way I see it is Win 7 is likely the first MS OS that HASN'T needed a SP1 to be useable....

The full RTM of Ultimate works just fine....straight out of the box....

I'll be waiting till you break it before upgrading - why bark yourself when you have a dog to do it for you

Turns out I have a friend who has the Windows 7 RC that he couldn't use because of his very old hardware. I'll run that for now. Should solve my issues. Thanks guys.

Live and learn I guess. I know I've been a pain to deal with.

I would recommend going for the 90 trial of the RTM Version. Yrag's reply #28 has the link.

Thank you Phoon. After I get my burner working today I will look into it.
