Just curious. I recently picked up a system with a 1 TB Western Digital hard drive. This drive puts out a decent amount of heat. Is that normal?
What temps are you recording ? around 30ºC is normal
Not sure of the exact temp, I have no program to tell me. Just very hot to the touch.
Download aida32/aida64, depending on your OS whether its 32 bit or 64 bit. Then you can check sensor section (image posted below to show where)
The trial version of AIDA64 will not allow me to see the hard drive temp. Sorry.
SpeedFan or CoreTemp - both free (will check for web and proper name on that second)
SpeedFan is http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
Forget the other, it's name is GPU Temp and is only GPU
I been using one sporadically called "Crystal Disk Info" Seems to do a complete job of analyzing the disk. http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en Its produced in Japan.
Speedfan reports the drive is running around 93F. SMART status checks out fine. Is 93F normal? That's hotter than my CPU is running.
My sick hard drive is running at 40C and regularly passes 55 (but it is a laptop hard drive, so I think they are supposed to run cool)
I just installed it on my very ancient Dell desktop and it is running at 34C
PS, I edited my original note. (messages got passed I think)
93ºF is 33ºC so yeah it's a pretty healthy temp.
Ha... I didn't notice that was Fahrenheit, I'm so used to anything computer being in Celsius. I was thinking yours was running way hot... lol
K. Thanks. Perhaps I should get a fan for it.
If it's 'F' then that's normal.
If it's 'C' then it's not.
Fan isn't needed just make sure that the hard drive isn't in an enclosed area where there is little airflow. Also clear out any settled dust it helps a lot
