Interesting article.

Yes, and it even goes on to suggest that Apple is killing off the desktop and "phone-izing" its laptops, etc, to meet the expectations of the mobile market.

Hmmm, with MS going Metro, and Apple killing the desktop, it looks like nobody [other than the pad/phone freaks... er, enthusiasts] is going to get what they want.

Quoting starkers, reply 1and Apple killing the desktop?

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/11/27iMac-Available-on-November-30.html[/quote]

That may be so, a new Mac desktop is coming out soon, but this... from the article...

"Next up is the OS. Have you noticed that OSX releases of late, well, to be blunt, suck? It’s not that they suck as a stand alone OS, but they take away a lot of the freedoms and flexibility that the Mac desktop OS user has come to expect. Bit by bit Apple is removing all of the parts that make OSX something other than a phone class OS. The UI changes, the App store, and the overall feel of the new OS move it more and more toward a slightly open iOS, not a UNIX core with a slick GUI on top. It is being progressively closed down and phone-ized. Any guesses as to why?"

This suggests that something is happening with Apple's desktop, and it don't look long term to me.  By the look of it, Apple is listening to the market analysts [that desktops are obsolete] and is placing a great deal more of its eggs in its IOS/mobile baskets as it gradually winds down its OSX and desktop divisions.

starkers... I have an iPad, and I absolutely love it.

There's room for everything in computing, my friend. MD's are wild about the newest iPad... and did you know there's even an app which changes an iPhone into an ekg?

SemiAccurate... appropriate, as it's semi-inaccurate.

I favor a marketplace where there are lots of choices.

Do they have one that lets you use it as a colonoscope?

Fuzzy Logic
it can be made to fit...

As an anonymous techie and computer security mavin once wrote, "One man's backdoor is another man's point of exploitation."

That saying was later adapted (and adopted, reportedly) by RnD... but that's a wooly tail.

@ Doc. Even if remade into 3D,  there are some movies I would rather miss.

@ Fuzzy.  They say everything can be made to fit, but perhaps that is a stretch.

I don't know where you got that quote from, Doc, but it sounds like it came from a well-reared individual.

So Apple and others will go for the rear-end customization? Sort of like getting a foot hold in the backdoor or bringing up the rear first as opposed to the front end knowing where its been while the guy in the back seat does the driving while reading how Apple killed the PC three times and its still around as he texts to all his buds as the bandwagon they're riding on heads for the edge and the drop off, all the way to the bottom, can't be measured accurately because the Semi-accurate OS forgot to tell somebody?

If you can make sense out of this you're pretty good. What with all the dumb stuff coming out of Apple and MS. Those two should get a room.

Yes, i did, but I've seen other articles that suggest similarly... that Apple appears to be moving away from desktops to focus on portable devices.  In any event, I don't care if they do or they don't, it's most unlikely that I'll ever own an Apple product anyhow.

Each to his/her own, hey!  I have an Android tablet and find it to be rock solid, well appointed and easy to use.  It it a match for the iPad?  Well my niece seems to think so, having had an iPad and now an Android.
