It's taken me awhile to start this thread, sorry. I know this may end up in flame wars. Again I am sorry.

So everyone knows my situation. Well those close to me on this site do. My computer is finally showing signs of how old it truly is. Keep in mind my computer has a Pentium 4 processor so I am guessing this setup to be almost ten years old. The problem, even after a few friends helped me here with a new hard drive and more memory, is the rest of the system. The processor can't keep up with the newer operating systems. I'm having a hard time just running XP. Found out the other day my DVD Burner drive is almost dead as it will read disc sometimes and other times it will not. Monitor is on it's last legs as well. Hard to read anything and the brightness is going out. It's an old CRT Dell monitor that is almost as old as the tower.

As Starkers had told you this computer is my main way to communicate with the things that are important in my life. So I was hoping someone out there had a few newer parts I could install to extend the life of the machine a bit. Nothing special. I already have DDR2 memory and a newer hard drive. Just need a few other things.

So carry on. Discuss I guess.

Is sync turned on on 8?

on Feb 15, 2013

I guess. What does it do?

on Feb 15, 2013

Syncs settings from one PC to another, if you have sync on, and you change wallpapers on one PC, the other PC changes too....that kind of thing.

Yeah but the fact remains that the email I used to set up Windows 8 has noting to do with Facebook and I don't have my Facebook photos saved to any computer. Makes no sense.

What about GOOGLE? Did you use that?

on Feb 15, 2013

My Facebook account is setup using my Gmail account. But I didn't use my Gmail account at all inside of Windows 8. Only my Hotmail account. And my Hotmail account is no way linked to my Facebook account.

Maybe you should ask these questions in the Microsoft Forums or Facebook support, if there is such a thing. There are currently 1.06 billion people on Facebook. One, I say one of them, just might know the answer

Not really that big of a deal for me to look it up at the Microsoft forums. I don't use Windows 8 as my main OS yet. I just play with it on Virtualbox.

So I went into my Facebook settings. In there I found it had my Hotmail account listed as a backup email. The problem is that I used my MSN account for Windows 8 and my Hotmail account for Facebook. That might be why I am seeing my pics.

I myself set up windows 8 to sign in with a local account instead of a shared one like that. You won't have those issues then.

Yep....that is the link.....

That is what I love about the 'new Microsoft'.......all of you (the information that makes a person) finally has an MS home now.  Switch between MS devices, add/login to your MS account and voila....email, calendars, contacts, photos, files etc. etc. all synced together by the magic of MS.  Yes, yes I know others (ie. google etc.) have been doing so for some time now, I just prefer MS personally.

Ahhh......the cloud......so blissful......

I don't like it. I don't want all of my stuff spread across all of my devices. Very annoying.

Me, I created a hotmail account specifically for Win 8 and related Microsoft correspondence, I use it for nothing else, therefore there are no overlaps with my other accounts, etc.  I'm a bit like kona in that I like to keep things in their proper place, rather than here, there and everywhere.

I will use Skydrive for items I have terrestial copies of and aren't too important/personal, but only so that I have access to them if needed when I'm out and about.  Other than that, I want my stuff organised and compartmentalised in its designated location.

Starkers - I wrote you an important email. Thanks!

Us rednecks call that a cup.
