Got me a Lenovo laptop here. Not sure of the model, I know it's an IdeaPad 110, but they have many 110 models. This one has the Intel Core I3 with 6 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB hard drive. Anyhow, I'm running Windows 10 and have it set to turn off the display after 2 minutes and sleep after 5 on both plugged in and battery. Now I don't have any programs stopping it from sleeping that I know of. I created a sleep button for my taskbar that works fine, but I would prefer the machine t...

Thought I would ask you experts here as Google really isn't all that helpful or I don't know how to search properly. Got a newer Dell laptop. Windows 10. Problem is when I hit the power button, this thing refuses to come on 9 times out of 10. Ran across a web page that suggested I take out the battery, unplug the power adapter, and press the power button for 30 seconds, thereby clearing the system of power. It's supposed to help get rid of the small static buildup inside the computer...

Using Windows 10. On a Dell Insprion 15 laptop. It's new. When I'm on battery, ever so often the screen just turns off. Was curious if anyone would now why. :/

So I got a good deal on a notebook at a local pawn shop. Using it now. The shop had upgraded it to Windows 10. When I got it home I did a complete factory reset and that reinstalled Windows 8.1. Now since the free upgrade to 10 is over with, does anyone know if I can go back to 10 for free somehow?

Too many choices on Google, so I thought to ask my friends here. I'm looking for a program that will take an exact image of my hard drive that can be restored after replacing the hard drive or a system crash that can't be recovered. Basically a program that will allow be to boot up via USB stick, then copy the image to the hard drive, then, like magic, everything works like it did when it was backed up. Easy to use is a plus. Thanks guys.

I tried the anniversary update. Tried it for a week straight after a clean install of Windows 10. My computer slows to a crawl with the update. So how do I AVOID having Windows update to the anniversary update? I would love to turn off automatic updates all together, but I haven't found out how without using a 3rd party solution. Thanks.

So I picked up a IBM ThinkPad T60 for cheap. Old owner tried to put Windows 10 on it, but the poor machine ran very, very slow. It was made for XP. So I need to ask what operating system you guys would use. I have a legit COA on the computer for XP but no one uses that anymore. I don't have a copy of 7. I do have Fedora Linux and Mint Linux. So what OS would you install? It's not my main machine, I have a MacBook for that. It has a Intel Centrino CPU, 2 Ghz, 32 bit, 3 GB of memory, and a...

So I bought a new computer back in early February. It came with Windows 8.1. Recently got the Windows 10 update. So far I'm liking Windows 10. I didn't care much for the Start menu so I bught Start 10. My question is what happens if my hard drive dies? I don't have Windows 10 on a DVD, nor do I have any product code if I was to download an ISO. So what options do I have?

So out of curiosity I decided to see if Windows Defender is running on my system. It is not. When trying to start it I get an error message saying it can't be started because Windows is using a different virus scanner. I have no other AntiVirus programs on my computer. It came with McAffee but I remove it. I'm using Windows 8.1. Any ideas, fixes?

So I finally got a new machine for school. It came with Windows 8. Problem is with the wifi. I did a system recovery to return the system to it's factory condition. System worked flawlessly, and the wifi worked as it should. After the first batch of updates the wifi would no longer connect. Windows said the settings it had for the network no longer match. So I had to reset the router to get it to work again. Question is why is this happening?  System: HP 2000-2b09WM Notebook ...

So on the machine I use everyday I have an issue. I use Chrome. When in Chrome, I get constant redirects and popups.  I have tried the following with these results: AVG full scan - clean MSE full scan - clean Malewarebytes - clean Superantispyware - clean Spybot - clean ADWcleaner - clean Hitman PRO - clean The popups and browser hijacks have to be some sort of virus. But all of these say the machine is clean???

So, to make a long story short, life has been turned upside down for me. Went through a bad breakup, and escaped with almost nothing. So I sold a few things I no longer needed, and bought a Windows 8.1 tablet. Tried a full size laptop first, but with my current situation, and the fact I am now more mobile than I ever was in the last few years, I went with the tablet instead. Nothing special about this tablet, it has a Intel Atom quad-core processor, 32 GB solid state drive, and only 1 GB of DDR3...

So when I setup Windows 8.1 on my new laptop it wanted an email to use with Windows, and it had to be a Microsoft email. So out of curiosity I tried my Gmail addy and the system says it's a MS email. I know in the past I did something that made my Gmail addy a MS account, I linked something, but I can't remember. Is there a way to separate the two so that Gmail is NOT associated with Microsoft?

So about every other hour of computer use my hard drive is making chirping and beeping sounds. It happens especially when I am accessing large files or moving large files. Windows says the drive is fine, and a SMART check says the drive is fine. According to the program HD Tune the drive SAMRT status is OK, but it says the spin retry account is above the threhold. The program also reports the drive has a power on time of 27450. I have no clue if that is minutes, hours, or days. I know the drive ...

OK, so I have been playing with Windows 8 and 8.1 for the last few weeks. I got a bit feed up with the Metro UI so I installed Classic Shell. Got confused about all of the options so I installed Start 8. Easy to use, it does what I need. Looking to buy Start 8 here soon. So my question is what is Metro for when I use Start 8? Just a watse of hard drive space and coding? Oh, Starkers - Windows 8 is not faster under the hood than 7 in my experience so far. Painfully slow.
